Cipher Chemistry

This testify was completely ruined by lack of writing and a terrible chemistry betwixt the four hosts. None of them were worth annihilation, at least non together. I usually similar Mario Batali just he seemed too star-struck trying to impress the two women. The NYT guy was just atrocious throughout. He had nothing to say and came across more often than not as a whiny idiot. The Spanish girl was beautiful, but all she ever did was say "Qué bueno" as she ate something. None of them seemed to mesh with the Spanish people they met along the manner; it was as if they were just the hired help for the 4 stars. In the episode nigh paella they didn't even make a paella; information technology was arroz a banda.

Four hosts were but as well many, even though they often separate into pairs. They should have focused more on the food and less on themselves. Next time get some people who know what they are talking well-nigh and exit the vegetarian (Paltrow) at abode.

More than gastro-tourism than a food show

I love this testify not every bit a a cooking testify. The cooking is a waste product and I can't believe that they could put a cookbook out. That said I dear the light and beauty of Spain besides where in the world can y'all get to lovely places and swallow a metre long churros and I am non talking about horrible fast-food places.

The bandage are likable and information technology has a pleasant conversational tone to them. The joy of this series is that information technology is non commercialised and though information technology is shot on a shoestring is very well photographed. It is interesting that the cast would come and go over the episodes to grab up with their lives. Claudia Bassols is a gorgeous and holds her ain confronting GP (every bit Mario Batali likes to phone call her) It shows why Spain is at the forefront of the best restaurants in the world and I want to kidnap Frank Gehry and put him to work transforming the Sydney great locations but crap architecture.

Not appetizing at all

I was intrigued at first that Gwenyth is in a food show, non that I am particularly fond of her. Afterward watching one episode, I was and then bored and was not fifty-fifty a flake excited by the food they talked about. I love food channels, don't go me wrong. However, this show is and then not inspiring and the presentation of the food was neither flavory nor interesting. I was rather disappointed. Thought if they spend that much money to hire some big names, at least they will give this whole prove a bit more thoughts. Most of time they just stood in that location and asked the chefs some irrelevant questions. Sometimes information technology seems like a road trip for the rich and famous but nothing interesting to talk most. What a let downwards....

Needs more Food and Less Paltrow

This entire evidence premise seemed very promising. Take a earth-renown chef in Batali, a nutrient writer in Bittman, a local celebrity in Bassols, and so... for some reason, let'south toss in Gwenneth Paltrow. From the first episode it becomes painfully clear that Paltrow is really the flat tire of the group. Anytime she isn't with the other three, there is an ease and flow to the series that is quite enjoyable if but information technology were cut downward a bit more to focus on the nutrient and non and then much on their idle banter. Batali is great, as usually. Bittman is tough to like as first, but he really grows on you. Bassols is lovely and if her acting chops can stand up up to her looks and flair for life, I'grand sure she'll start getting more rolls later on this. And that'due south the real trouble in that when you put Bassols next to Paltrow and watch Claudia downing the food and drinking the wine, Gwenneth comes across equally even less enjoyable while she pecks at her food and sips her wine, apparently fearing weight gain, as she alludes to in the kickoff 10 minutes of the outset episode. It makes ane wonder as to why she'due south even running around Spain in the first place with iii people who are thoroughly enjoying information technology?

a presentation you lot can not assistance simply savour

Fifty-fifty if your don't like Spain (a place I was never particularly interested in) or the gourmet scene (I cannot stand "foodies") or any of the hosts (I find Gwyneth Paltrow terribly irritating) you will however savour "Spain: on the road again". I saw ane episode on PBS and knew I had to come across the others. I got ahold of the DVD, a beautiful 4-disc set, in the fashion DVD's should be offered, with none of the double sided or cliplock crap! I've been enjoying it all week. Mario Bitali, whos testify I never actually watched before, is an extremely intelligent man, and a wonderful host, guiding us through the cultural and culinary delights of Espana. Mark Bittman provides comic relief and other insights. Mario and Marker actually must practise more series of "on the route again", mayhap with different companions every fourth dimension?

Why is Gwyneth in Spain ?

Please give the states Gwyneth with Gok Wan on the road, Rick Steves, Charley Boorman even Tom Parker Bowles.

Chalky would be rolling over in pet heaven if  Rick Stein always put this to air.  Oh give us Jamie Oliver in his VW Combie, even Gwyneth with Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall or  Gordon 'potty mouth' Ramsey, Willie Nelson or Keith Flloyd would exercise.

Two Mercs, some occasional scenery, the Comic Book Guy and Glenn Quagmire - a 'Light-green Eggs and Ham' cooking show this does not make.

Perhaps a dubbed Japanese version by Iron Chef Hiroyuki Sakai may better things.

Horrible

Watching a very obese Mario Batali made me want to nutrition, not eat. It was worse when he hitting on Claudia all the time and made her obviously uncomfortable. It seemed like Paltrow was very inapplicable-but there for star power. She had several segments (information technology seemed like one in each show) with Mario where she whined about her life. The interplay with these gorgeous women really detracted from what Mario did well in his Italian series-which is really good enquiry and explanations of the local specialties. At that place was one fleck in Asturias where it was just the guys and it seemed meliorate due to the focus on what he's expert at.

Cinematography was reasonably skillful. But this is off my DVR.

Insipid, with excruciatingly irksome conversation

If you like hearing Willie Nelson singing "On the Road Again," y'all will similar this bear witness. That song plays over and over until you want to kill yourself.

The real trouble with this series is that it is badly produced. The conversation consists by and large of, "MMMM.. that'due south adept" and other insipid remarks. Only Mario occasionally makes sense. Bittman adds nothing to the proceedings and is an birthday unattractive personality. The women were also worthless.

However, if you similar looking at scenery and watching other people eat, this is the show for yous. Perhaps better with the audio turned off.

The Joy is the Road

Warning: Spoilers

Having just watched the serial, I have to say I love it. It'southward about food, nigh travel, about friends. It appeals because it's the dream trip we always wished to take with our best friends. Yes, in that location are famous people in this journey--but the interaction is at a level that is imaginable for real people. OK, we won't be renting the cars that they take...but the witty reparte is attainable--and the nutrient is in that location in Spain to exist enjoyed.

The scenario--Mario Batali and Mark Bittman (NYT food columnist) want to film a foodie roadtrip through Spain. Gwyneth Paltrow hears about the idea and signs on--star power gains a film crew and they search for a 4th for residue. Polylingual extra Claudia Bassols joins in and they are set out (to quote the oft repeated theme)on the road.

If you want a clearly organized guide to sights and scenery--this may not be your guide. On the other paw, if you live for the surreptitious joys of discovery, then yous might love information technology. This series is almost discovering the what you don't expect at the next plough and enjoying the joy of it all...While others are negative virtually Gwyneth'south participation--I retrieve she adds a proficient sense of discovery. It is refreshing to detect the famous willing to live exterior their boxes, to be open to the unexpected.

I so hope in that location will exist a sequel in some other country--Batali'southward enthusiasm is balanced by Bittman'southward acerbic wit and the more grounded sensibilities of Paltrow and Bassols. Tin can they take on Italy? France? India? Chile? Fourth dimension volition tell.

Inspiring and addictive!

I first heard Mario Batali mention this evidence during an appearance on Good Morn America and was intrigued (give thanks goodness GMA keeps me electric current!) I missed the first episode but was able to catch the second episode and cannot look for the rest of the serial! The country is cute, as I knew information technology would be, the food looks fantastic and and then interesting, and the conversation seems to flow so easily and comfortably between everyone on this show. I guess this qualifies every bit more of a travel show than a reality show, but it seems to be mostly unscripted, to me anyway. There'south a chip of history involved, mostly relayed to the others past Mario Batali, and the speaking of Spanish and interjections of everyday phrases make it a not bad way to castor upward on your conversational Spanish. Fifty-fifty if you are not planning a trip to Kingdom of spain in the nearly futurity this is a great one-hour escape of a evidence which leaves you inspired to cook more lovely meals at home and completely fond as you lot await for time to come episodes!
